|
|
Note: This information is now out of date, but has been retained here as a historical record.
Hello All,
Here's a provisional pricing matrix for the future official release of UVLayout.
People who bought pre-release Dongle and Floating licenses will automatically
be allocated Professional licenses of UVLayout. People who bought Ether
licenses have two choices:
a) They can continue to operate with their Ether ID locking and will get
a Professional License of UVLayout, or
b) They can change to a a Hobbyist License, with no Ether ID locking, but
they won't get the Symmetry Find tool introduced in the v1.17 release.
If you have any questions about the prices or conditions, just post them here.
Phil
PS. The GDC special price is for people who physically show up at our booth at
the Games Developers Conference. Cash or credit cards accepted only. See
this posting for details ... http://www.headus.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=262
PPS. Oh, and all prices are in US$.

Blimey, Phil .. that almost makes C4D's pricing and upgrade structure look simple!
Being allergic to decision making, I've gone the simple route and stumped up the cash for a pre-release dongle. Can't live without my UV Layout!
Oh, and any UK purchasers out there .. the dongle costs £120, and the FedEx charge is (gulp!) £32. |

Is the key based licensing on the Pro version not going to happen then? Or is it still on the drawing board to be implemented later? |

Yeah, sorry, I wanted to put everything in there so it was clear what was what :-) Maybe I'll separate out the Demo licenses into their own table.
For most people it'll just be a decision between a Hobbyist and a Professional Dongle. The Hobbyist license gives you all the power of the Professional licenses, minus some of the time saving features. Its a time vs money thing ... if you have lots of spare time and less money, go Hobbyist ... if you're in business where every minute saved is a dollar saved, go Professional.

The Pro version will only be available via a Dongle or the Floating licenses. We're phasing out the Ether ID locking for UVLayout because of the complications it causes when people upgrade PCs or LAN cards. Existing customers with Ether licenses will of course continue to be supported.
The new "you can run UVLayout on any PC, as long as its only used by a single person" keys will only be available for Student and Hobbyists licenses.

It seems the dongle price has increased a little bit, but it's nice to see an affordable student license - I'm sure my classmates would sink into that. |

Yes ... the current prices are only a pre-release special though, and we haven't hidden the fact that it was going to go up at some point. Well, I didn't think we had hidden it ... if you read the first paragraph of the uvlayout.com/buy page it gives the $350 price tag there for dongles.
The major change to that original price lost is the removal of the Ether license option (causes too many hassles for the buyer and for support at this end), and the addition of the lower cost options.

So will you be offering a side grade price from the pre-release ether key to a dongle?
I’d hoped that the serial key option would be available without it limiting the software and I certain don’t intend downgrading to a feature disabled version after I’ve already paid for the program. |

To upgrade from an Ether license to a Dongle would cost $125, which is the current difference between the Ether and Dongle licenses plus a small processing fee.

There was a pre-release price for Ether license. I wish to buy Hobbyist (but Symmetry Find tool sounds lovely ) - are there any chance to get a special pre-release price for Hobbyist ?
And I see that hobbyist can use commercial too...so difference is only Pro version?
I'm mostly hobbyist, but sometimes I make something for sell, but not professional as a game maker or a movie maker or something similar. |

The difference between the Hobbyist and Pro licenses is the availability of the Symmetry tool, plus probably the Auto-Packing tool I have on the drawing board.
Hobbyist can do commercial work with their license if they wish, its only Students who are restricted to personal projects.
Only Pro licenses are available with pre-release prices.
Hope that clears it up! If not, keep asking questions.
