I have this issue every time I use UVL. I can not tell where the front of my item is.
Just as an example let's say I have a ring for a finger and I want the seam on the palm side, not on the top of the hand side.
This object is completely symmetrical and I can not tell where the top/bottom (or front/back) is.
I just uv'd a crown object and wouldn't you know that I guessed wrong and the seam is in the ftont so I have to do it again. Problem is that I rotated my view so that I'm going to have to guess again and hope I'm right this time.
Am I missing a cue somewhere in UVL that tells me? |

You are not missing anything ... there's nothing currently in UVLayout to tell you how your object is oriented.
There's a couple of things you could try though to help ...
1) put a small separate object (e.g. a single square or cube) in the geometry near where you want the seam, then when you load that into UVLayout you know exactly where to make the cut.
2) if the object is perfectly symmetrical, then when its loaded back into your modeler, simply rotate it around until the seam is where you want it.

Thanks for the reply. The separate sphere object was the way I intended to go if there were no cues.
The symmetrical doesn't work because the object is sometimes rotated...such as the crown being tilted to fit the head....if you see what I mean.
thanks again |
