Hi,

Could we please have a packing/segment marked polys option that aligns shells to world space?
For a shell with several faces, It could take a look at the largest faces of the mesh that are not perpendicular to Y, then rotate the shell accordingly.

Here's an image to help explain what we're looking for.

Cheers,
Mike

It might be help if we could mark say one or two faces that we want to dictate the Y direction.

For a probably logical reason I've now forgotten, when the segment "Box" option is unticked, then the segmented shells are packed with rotation turned on. I think this might explain why you are seeing random orientations after segmenting.

If you tick "Box" then the shells aren't rotated, and you should get what you are after (i.e. dropped shells are always oriented in UVLayout so applied texture is aligned as best can be with vertical axis). If you then dont want boxes around all the segmented shells, click "Delete All" in the pack tool.
